Honey Oak Stool

This three-legged stool is made from old Sussex honey oak. The tree stood on the edge of a field in Sussex farmland for over 350 years. In this location the tree grew to a magnificent size and would have been a wonderful feature in this picturesque landscape. In 1995 the tree fell in high winds. It was milled where is lay and stored in the an old barn on the farm where it slowly air-dried for over 20 years. Mills has sole use of the wood from this tree and creates only a handful of pieces from it each year. The tree was locally known as honey oak and displays a rare mellow honey colour that is very different to other English oaks.
