Charred Rainforest oak

This oak vessel come from an old oak tree that stood in temperate rainforest woodland in North Devon, UK. The woodland is only a short walk form my studio and its a place that I’m forging a special relationship with. This Oak tree stood low on the side of a steep valley and grew here slowly for many hundreds of years. A large portion of its trunk still lays on the ground as it continues its life cycle in the woodland. It fell into a water meadow during a harsh storm. The vessels have been turned whilst high in moisture then slowly charred.
